Held in testing 0.5m waves at Maroochydore (Sunshine Coast, Qld), Jaggar dominated his opening round heat of the U/9 parent assist division as dad - Queensland surfing legend and 1978 world champion Wayne Bartholomew proudly looked on. “Surfing with your kids is what life is all about in Queensland…it’s a family sport,” said Wayne Bartholomew. “My kids have been looking forward to the Wahu events for months, so to get out there and see them riding waves while having fun with all the other kids is a touching sight.”
“I was out there with Jaggar only offering some moral support…Jaggar prefers to paddle into waves himself so I just sat back and enjoyed seeing all the grommets ripping,” he said. Also shining on day-one was another grommet from strong surfing stock – Luke Hynd (Surfers Paradise) who is the nephew of Derek Hynd. |
